I love things that are FREE, and when you put BlackBerry and Free into the same sentence im even more interested. The list that i have written below contains 5 of my personal favorite BlackBerry applications that won’t cost you a single penny.

Some of them you may know and use frequently others you may not, this list may not suit everyone as its my own personal insight but if you find one free BlackBerry application here that you grow to love then my job is done!

The List

1. BlackBerry Messenger

Now this one is cheating a little as it comes with the phone, but this is my absolute favorite application that you can have on a BlackBerry phone. The amount of money that it saves me in not having to text my partner or friends who have a BlackBerry is quite astronomical. Before converting to a BlackBerry/Vodafone contract I was hooked up typically to £20-£30 contracts that when all the extras were added on each month went up to around the £80-£100 mark. Now my contract is £35 a month and vary rarely goes above £50… the extras being games that I have downloaded and added to my bill. I firmly believe part of this saving is down to BlackBerry Messenger.

Not only is BB messenger a great cost saving application but it is a great social tool offering the ability to communicate, send images and files just like you would in a program like msn on your computer. This application is built into your phones OS and so doesn’t need downloading.

2. Viigo

Pretty much every decent website you visit has an RSS Feed (a format for delivering regularly changing web content). We have our own feed right here on this site. And what Viigo allows you to do is add multiple feeds from you favourite site and much more… so as soon as the site you are following publishes new material you can open up Viigo and view bang up to date info.

There aren’t very many mobile readers that deliver the same quality and with the fact that it comes pre-loaded with 2500 subscriptions to some of the very best sites on the net you cant go wrong.

3. FaceBook

To say im a face book addict is quite an understatement. I first started out as a myspace fan but quickly moved my focus over to facebook. The BlackBerry application is a toned down version of the main site, there are certain features that will hopefully be imported into Facebook 1.5 when it is finally released but for now this one is good enough to make it into my top 10 at number 3.

the mobile application displays your home screen notifications, like status updates, and you can “poke” or message friends and write on their “Walls.” Lists of friends and their status updates are also available with a single click from the mobile home screen, and photo uploading and sharing is as simple as snapping an image with your smartphone’s camera and uploading it to the site from the application’s home screen.

4. Tiny Twitter

In at number 4 is Tiny Twitter. This neat little BlackBerry Twitter application allows me to tweet freely throughout the day and also keep up to date with people that I am following. What I love about twitter is that you can follow a bunch of people you will never meet and get an insight into their lives, what they are doing, who they are doing it with and also find things that are relative to me on the internet as I follow people who are interested in things I am.

Tiny Twitter has quite a few options available for users who wish to customize their Twitter experience from their BlackBerry. These include: font settings, sync settings (auto-update every couple of minutes if you wish), UI settings and more.

There is another great free twitter app in the shape of twitter berry but I have settled on tiny twitter, its just a personal choice there isn’t much between them though.

5. Quick Pull

Last but not least on my favourite free BlackBerry applications list is QuickPull. If like me your a bit geeky when it comes to checking how much memory you have got on your phone, you will know that a battery pull a day keeps the memory loss at bay!

Sometimes, like when using an otterbox case or similar on your phone, it can be a bit inconvenient to take your phone apart! Step forward QuickPull. Its a simple little application that does the same thing as removing your battery without the need to physically do it. What I like best about the App is that you can set it to reset at a certain time. I usually set it for 7 in the morning so when I wake up my phone is refreshed and ready to go for the hammering it will get throughout the day.

Thats my 5 Favourite Applications for the BlackBerry smartphones. I would be greatful if you could leave a comment with five of your own favourite apps below.

I have never tried BB messenger as yet as I am the only one I know with a BB. Did try through a Facebook group but no one wanted to use it.

I paid for MeterBerry (http://www.meterberry.com/) which is excellent and takes the place of quickpull, a geeks dream :)

Facebook app goes without saying I guess

Tiggit email client is great, has proper imap support including folders which is a must. The support is excellent as well.

The app from zyb.com which allows me to remotely keep my contacts sync’d. This is an excellent free service. Also does calendar as well

Lastly Blackping which I use to update my ping.fm. Simple tidy app keeps it all in 1 place

wah it looks like meterberry is nice.
I wish there is a way that we can install the application onthe device memory instead of the application memory.
